Use of gauges and measuring tools in day to day life

The world is full of opportunities, options and we make sure to pick the best out of everything. In order to maintain a balanced life, we depend on measuring instruments and equipment every now and then. Gauges are one of the very essential measuring tools utilised in almost every sector.

There are rain gauges, mechanical measuring instruments called as gauges and a lot more. Here in this post, we are going to discuss in brief about the mechanical gauges. Usually gauges are classified into 2 type; pressure gauges that measure pressure and vacuum gauges that measure vacuum.
Here comes set of gauges that perform various measuring operations;
·
          Caliper is a device that measures the width of an object. Usually slide calipers are used in physics laboratories.
·
           A bore gauge measure holes. Small linear distances are measured using a dial indicator. Wire gauges determine the thickness of a wire.
·
          Gauge block is a precision ground and lapped length measuring standard that refers to the machine shops like sine bars, micrometers, dial indicators and calipers.
·         Strain gauges are meant for measuring strain of an object.
·
           A micrometer screw gauge uses a caliberated screw, to measure small distances in machining and mechanical engineering, along with various metrological instruments like digital calipers, vernier and dial. Almost all the mechanical trades make use of these gauges.
·
          Engineering gauges used in the lathe work to determine the angles, while grinding the centres and single-point screw cutting tool bits are known as fishtail or centre gauges.

Gauges manufacturing in India is done extensively, but for some industries they are imported as well. Knowing the techniques to use them can offer you the perfect measurement of whatever things you want to gauge.
